a very puppy christmas


This is my new puppy, Levi. He’s nine weeks old. He is smart and sweet and playful. He wakes every few hours in the night so we bond outside under the moonlight in the bitter cold. I am feeling love and dread all at the same time. I keep wondering what I’ve done. The new can be that way. It can be wonderful, frightening and off putting. I am diving deep into the new – all of it and living right here and right now, knee deep in puppy poop. Have a very puppy christmas. I know I will.

    Me too! Dover, the English Creme Retriever, arrives on Monday and I am wonderfully/apprehensively excited to welcome my new love. Does Levi’s breath smell like graham crackers? That’s what I look forward to, not so much the moonlight poops. Happy Puppy!

    Congratulations on your puppy Christmas, Katie!

    Two years ago I received the best present of my entire life (not counting my three wonderful children, LOL), Maya our rescue Maltipoo. While we were worried about the changes in our life having a dog would bring, she has added a sparkle to life we’ve sorely missed since our days of having our children at home. She brings us joy every single day.

    Oh my, Levi so reminds me of my Gracie Mae, Now 6 and three-quarters [almost]. And just yesterday while painting I listened to the whole of a wondrous book, The Puppy Diaries: Raising a Dog Named Scout by Jill Abramson.

    Puppy time is delicious and so nourishing to our sense of wonder and possibility!!

    4 years ago we welcomed the addition of our little big dog, Bonita Pearl. Our life was forever changed. The powerful connection with her flavours every day. Enjoy every wonderful moment!

    oh Levi is SO cute! best wishes! i remember the puppy stage and boy, sometimes i thought the same thing…..now, I don’t know how I ever thought that…..I’m sure I’ll remember once I get another pup one day…..enjoy your new little furry friend…..dogs (and all animals) are just THE BEST!

    Haha – I remember those nights! I kept thinking puppies are better because at least we can eventually put them in a crate so we can have some time to ourselves :) He is adorable. Merry Christmas!

    Agree with the comments above. Getting a dog was one of the best things we’ve ever done for so many reasons. We work at home, so having an excuse to go out 4 times a day means more exercise, more time to relax and more time away from the computer. Can’t see if he’s a lab or golden retriever, but either way, they are incredibly obedient (unlike my Pinscher) and loving. Congrats.

    Thanks for all the loving support and encouragement. He’s a Golden Retriever and he’s just lovely. We’ve had him four days now and he’s already sleeping seven hours at night which I hear is good for a nine week old. Just an angel, except when he’s going ballistic attacking my feet, the furniture, leaves, paper, dust bunnies, the hard wood floor, my blankets, the door hinge, the baby gate or his own tail. My pathetic housekeeping skills are in dire need of polishing. But who cares – he’s so darn cute!!!! Puppy kisses, puppy kisses, puppy kisses.

    Absolutely adorable. Loved the comments. Puppies and dogs play a role no other can fill. The idea of “unconditional” is one of the best lessons ever and taught best by puppies.
